The wooden dummy is an absolute must for any serious student of Wing Chun. Practice with a dummy corrects angles of attack and defence, allows you to develop short range power and is always prepared to train with you. Most importantly like any martial art repetition is the key to success and the wooden dummy allows constant repetition and hence faster learning and development. But, they are expensive. They must be made of hard wood. It is illiegal to supply solid hard wood trunks now, (the body of the man), so dummies have to be made out of hard wood sections laminated together. Arms legs and frames need also to be made of hard wood in order that they last. If you view it as a one off purchase that will last a life time of training then you have put the cost in perspective. A wooden dummy made of hard wood usually retails at £400-500, less than £400 is usually soft wood.
RRP £425 club price £309 *I cannot guarantee this price for indefinatly* Complete hard wood dummy, arms and full frame!! Is it any good, come to Banwell and try one out, see what you think. Below is a photo of the frame on it's own
I dare you to find a cheaper hard wood dummy, even the plastic immortal dummies cost more than this!! |
