Philosophy.

Always remember the only way you can not lose is not to fight in the first place. Fighting in the street comes under the term Self-Defence, this means if you have NO other options. Understand martial arts increases threshold levels, reaction time, speed and strength but this is still no guarantee that your opponent will be equally matched.

Training and using a state of mind that allows you to keep control and believe you are going to die will help keep you calm in the face of the most violent reality. Keeping a calm confident attitude and stoic composure will help deter any attacker from attacking you. Attackers only attack if they believe they can win or when they are in a drunken or mental state, most people are normal and when they consider losing they simply back off.

Never under any circumstances in any self defence situation let any attacker grab you. If they grab you, you have started to lose control. If your attacker is armed or there are more than one and you are convinced of imminent attack use a pre emptive strike to a major target area with maximum force.

When you are in life threatening danger there is only one response as the only option left, its you or them and you cant cross a chasm in two small leaps.

Grading produces good martial artists, if it is to easy people will lose faith and confidence because they were given a grade instead of earning it. Remember easy come easy go.
